Trip to Beaufort NC

We took the Mooney to Beaufort NC (pronounced BoFort not BewFort) to visit Pete and Beth who we met at Oshkosh this year. Judy's log shows us starting the engine at 7:55 on Friday the 9th and taking off at 8:05. We were cleared across JFK v16 to Dixie then to join V1 till Pears intersection then make the turn left over to New Bern and direct into 'Morehead' city. When we leveled from the climb the speed never picked up. From JFK southwest our groundspeed was hovering around 110. It was solid IMC the entire state of New Jersey either in it, or sandwiched between closely spaced layers.  We broke out into clear skies at the northern shore of the Delaware bay and by Dover it was clear with unrestricted visibility.

Halfway down the Delmarva it became apparent hat we would not have enough fuel to have legal reserves at MRH. I had remembered from a Airnav.com search prior to departures that Hampton Roads had the cheapest 100LL in the area so at Jamie intersection I told Patuxent Approach that we were diverting there . We took on 33 gallons of 100LL at PVG for a whopping 109.13. The winds were kicking our ass and we climbed off to SUNNS intersection to join v139 southwest bound.

Washington Center handed us off to Cherry Point Approach who vectored us around to join a line of IFR arrivals which was suprising . We were in front of a MU2 and asked to keep our speed up. The Mitsubishi was cranking the pilots stated he was doing over 300Kts ground speed. We told the controller we had time so she vectored us north east to join the left base for runway 21  outside the MU2. We announced our position on a 5 mile final and were told to land on the orange dot by Pete who was hanging in the FBO.
